Hyundai Issues Major Recall for Nearly 300,000 Vehicles
Hyundai has issued a critical recall affecting nearly 300,000 vehicles due to a life-threatening issue involving the seatbelt anchors. The company announced this warning on Friday, highlighting that the problem could leave drivers and front passengers inadequately restrained in the event of an accident.
The affected models include the 2023–2025 Hyundai Ioniq 6, 2023–2026 Genesis G90, and 2024–2026 Hyundai Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid. More than 294,000 vehicles are involved in this recall. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), dealers will inspect and reinforce or replace the seatbelt anchors as needed, without any additional cost to the vehicle owners.
Vehicle owners will receive notification letters by June 5, 2026. However, the affected Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) have already been made available for search on the NHTSA website since Wednesday. This allows owners to check if their vehicles are included in the recall.

Recent Battery Recalls in Australia
This latest recall follows another significant issue involving Hyundai’s electric vehicles in Australia. A separate recall impacted nearly 5,000 vehicles due to a fault in the battery management software. This defect could potentially cause a fire while the car is charging or parked.
The affected models include the Kona EV produced between 2018 and 2023, and the IONIQ EV manufactured between 2018 and 2022. The recall was announced after Hyundai had previously warned vehicle owners globally in March. It also comes almost five years after a similar battery-related recall of IONIQ vehicles in Australia.
The federal transport department confirmed the recall of 3,478 Hyundai Kona electric cars and 1,402 IONIQ EVs. Owners were advised that they would be contacted by the manufacturer to schedule an assessment.

Risks Associated with the Battery Issue
According to the recall notice, a software issue in the Battery Management System may lead to an electrical short circuit while the vehicle is charging or parked, which could result in a fire. The risk of fire poses a serious threat to vehicle occupants, other road users, and bystanders.
Australian Hyundai dealers will diagnose the battery systems and provide either a software update or a hardware fix to resolve the issue. This step aims to ensure the safety of all drivers and prevent potential accidents caused by the faulty battery system.
Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Vehicle Safety
Hyundai’s recent recalls highlight the company’s commitment to addressing safety concerns and ensuring the well-being of its customers. These actions demonstrate the importance of regular vehicle inspections and staying informed about any potential issues that may affect your car.
By proactively identifying and resolving these problems, Hyundai is working to maintain trust among its consumers and uphold industry safety standards. If you own one of the affected models, it is crucial to check your VIN and follow the necessary steps provided by the manufacturer to address the issue promptly.
