Morocco Education Union Expels Official Over Forgery Allegations
The National Education Union of Morocco, which is affiliated with the Moroccan Workers’ Union (UMT), has taken decisive action against one of its local officials, Hassan Oumerbit. Following an internal investigation, the union has expelled Oumerbit from all positions within the organization due to his involvement in forging union membership cards.
The union’s statement emphasized that Oumerbit’s actions violated its core principles of transparency and accountability. These violations not only undermined the union’s mission but also damaged its credibility among educators and stakeholders. The misconduct reportedly went beyond simple forgery, involving fraud, a breach of trust, and the spread of false information that further eroded the union’s reputation.
Oumerbit’s membership had been temporarily suspended in early March, prompting a thorough internal probe. The findings were described as “clear and undeniable” evidence of wrongdoing. As a result, the union’s Ethics and National Arbitration Committee took final action, stripping him of all organizational and representative roles within the union.
The union has issued a strong warning that any future claims made by Oumerbit in the name of the organization are legally void. Additionally, the case has been referred to UMT’s national office, which is responsible for overseeing membership cards, for further legal and administrative measures.
In response to the incident, the union has called on the Ministry of National Education, local partners, and authorities to disregard any claims made by Oumerbit that purport to represent the union. This move is aimed at protecting the integrity of the organization and ensuring that its members are not misled.
As part of the disciplinary measures, the Agadir branches of the union were dissolved. The union explained that this decision was made to protect its reputation, maintain unity among its members, and support those affected by the misconduct. The dissolution of these branches is seen as a necessary step to prevent further damage to the union’s image and operations.
