House Fire Near Bundaberg Leaves Two Missing
A house fire that occurred near Bundaberg over the weekend has left two people unaccounted for. The incident took place in a remote rural area known as Good Night, where the victims, both in their 70s, were residents of the property.
The fire was discovered by police at around 9:15pm on Saturday when they arrived at the house located on Booyal Crossing Road. Upon arrival, they found the structure fully engulfed in flames. Emergency services were quickly mobilized, with nine Queensland Fire Department crews responding to the scene after receiving multiple emergency calls through the Triple Zero (000) system.
The blaze was eventually brought under control by 11:30pm, but not before significant damage was done. The roof of the single-storey house collapsed, and the entire building was destroyed. The extent of the damage has made it challenging for investigators to determine the origin of the fire.
Bundaberg Chief Inspector Grant Marcus confirmed that the fire is being treated as suspicious and will remain a crime scene for the next two to three days while investigations continue. He explained that the complete destruction of the house complicates efforts to identify the point of origin.
“We do know the house was completely engulfed, which makes trying to determine the location [of the start of the fire] difficult, which is why we need to render the house safe,” he said.
Ongoing Investigations and Safety Measures
Work is currently underway to remove the roof of the house to allow for a thorough examination by scientific and fire investigators. This process involves careful handling of the site to ensure the safety of all personnel involved.
One of the tools being used in the investigation is drone equipment, which provides an aerial view of the scene. This technology allows investigators to zoom in on specific areas of the house and analyze potential heat sources.
“They have been using drone equipment to get an aerial view of what’s going on,” he said. “We can also use that footage to zoom in on certain parts of the house and also try and use that equipment to identify where the main heat source may have been.”
Call for Information
Police are urging anyone who may have information or images that could assist with the investigation to come forward. They believe that any details, no matter how small, could be crucial in determining the cause of the fire and identifying those responsible.
The community remains on edge as the investigation continues. Authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the fire and to ensure that justice is served if foul play is involved.
As the search for the missing individuals continues, local residents are being asked to remain vigilant and report any unusual activity in the area. The tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of fire safety and the need for quick response in emergencies.
